I love flea markets! SO MUCH OLD GREAT STUFF! Anyway, last flea market I visited this Sunday was not so big but still, with a bit of sniffing around I managed to find some treasures. Some old doilies, some old buttons, brooches, hair clips and two necklaces. I have a lot of plans with the stuff :) I will share them with you as i go. But it involves: recycling, up cycling and giving new life to all this old stuff. Until then i enjoyed myself making photos of my trophy ^^

I am participating to a competition. The topic is: "birds" and the conditions are: self made and self designed. I can not say no to such a challenge so here it is: my crocheted birdhouse made from twine :) The pattern is written and sent to the editing house. If my pattern is chosen as winner it will be published in the next edition of "Mollie Makes Haken", the august edition. If it is not chosen as winner, I will anyway publish it here: win - win situation :P
By the way, if you understand Dutch and want to know more about the competition you can read all about it here. I must admit, in Romania there is no father's day. I don't know why, probably the whole idea of fatherhood is not so important that part of the world. But here in The Netherlands is kinda a big day so I had to do something to mark this moment. I made a Crew Crochet Cap for my father in low, following a very detailed video tutorial. You can find the video tutorial here. The only thing different from the original pattern was the inside lining that I added. All in all, I am happy with how it turned out, plus the video tutorial was a pleasure to follow, I even learned some neat tricks. I just hope that tomorrow the recipient of the gift will like it. (PS: i did not had any cap display so for the photos I improvised :P ).
Renji - just checking the perimeter...
Finally it is done! Our new kitchen curtain. The old one was terrible - old and full with dust and hair. From the cats. For some reason cats like to stare out the window, and our cats are no exception. To maintain the problem (lets face it, is not that I can do anything to stop the cats doing what they want) I made this slightly shorter curtain in three colors: brown, green and orange. The pattern used is very easy (I already posted the diagram here), works very fast, watching television is not a problem :) To complete the curtain for this window measuring 1m20 cm wide I needed to make 4 double and 4 single pieces each measuring 1m10 cm in length which I hand sew, alternating the colors. To hang the curtain I used the hook-and-loop fastener from the old curtain. To be able to sew the fabric strip to the curtain I crocheted an edge by using double crochet stitch. Washing was the next step - luckily with the weather it was dry and ready to hang in a couple of hours. The end :) Oh no, there is something else: I also used a simple garland I had around to make the window even more cheerful. I m not very happy with the result - that garland needs some color accents. So... to be continued... PS: Sorry for the quality of the pictures - the sun was shinning that side of the house. Just an update and a diagram that I use for one of my projects. A very simple pattern only using triple crochet stitch and chain. I wrote down the diagram for you, I hope it is clear enough but if not, let me know. And then I made some photos of how the pattern looks in three colors - the electric orange is so bright, I love it!
Some random photos of my new projects :)
The last couple of weeks were very busy for me: work, work and some more work. That's why I did not have too much time for my crocheting #sadpanda :(
However, this does not mean I did not do anything: I am working on a couple of projects and I have some photos to prove it :) Just that they are quite ambitious projects so it will take a while to finish them. And patience is not my strongest point... but I do find a lot motivation when receiving positive feedback on my work. And lately I received quite a lot of nice messages - I am very grateful for those that took the time to write me. And then there is the appreciation of fellow bloggers that find my patterns worthy of mentioning on their blogs. For instance my moss stitch laptop cover that was featured on Best of crochet blog. I could not be more proud and happy that people appreciate and like my work. And with this said, back to crocheting, my projects await me :) People celebrate Mother’s Day today. Not everywhere, in Romania Mother’s Day is celebrated on 8th of March. But here in The Netherlands today is the day. And to mark the occasion, I learned a new stitch: Solomon’s Knot, also called the lover’s knot. Very easy to make if you get the hang of it. What I made using this stitch? Something special for someone special: a wrap made from mohair for my mother in law :) The fight to organize my house continues! My last project: hanging baskets to store scarfs and gloves. I don’t have a pattern for the two baskets you see in the photo because there are already so many nice patterns on the internet. I used double yarn to match a size 7 hook and it took me two evenings to finish these two. My last project: a wall organizer. Dutch houses are small, and our apartment is no exception. One needs to find ways to keep everything organized. This little project is meant to help me do that :) Plus, it is a fun project to make. I had some granny squares that I made long time ago but did not use them - perfect for this project! And as a method to hang it to the wall I improvised and used a clothes hanger :P As always, for those of you who want to see how I did this project, all the details are found on the Patterns section. I am happy with the result :) Do you like it? |
