New design - cat cave ^^

I just love making things for a good cause :) Just that I get bored easily and then I need to invent something new. The same happened with the cat nests I was doing - I just needed to do something else for a bit of variation. So I made a cat cave! For those cats out there who just like to dig and hide in the darkness :))) We have one like this, if she finds a blanket she will do her best to crawl under and take a nap :))
Ok, so here is how I did it. Again, I used left-over yarn, combined it in a bulky thread and crocheted using a size 12 crochet hook. I also used a hoop made from a  flexible plastic rod that I rescued from an old window cover. I started the beginning row by crocheting single crochet stitches around the hoop. Slip stitch to close the circle and then worked in circles using double crochet only. Because the hoop was a bit large I decreased from time to time (3 stitches every 2 or 3 rows). When I was satisfied with the length of the cave I stopped and left the end of the cave open. Then I asked my cats to test it :P

I love your cat caves and would like to make some for the cats I foster for my Local Animal Rescue, could you please let me know what size the plastic hoop is that you use.

Thankyou

Love this cat cave we have 3 kitties and they would love this. One thing did you mean you left the small end open too?? Thanks

I already donated this cat-cave but if I remember correctly the hoop had a diameter of 35 cm. And yes, I left the small end open - my cats liked to play with this cat-nest running through it like though a tunnel :)

Love this. My cat Maggie loves to find a dark, quiet place and hide from me. She older so not rambunctious but this would suit her finicky side. By the way, my real name is Kitty.

Well, you can try to use some thicker, plastic coated wire for instance.. maybe try to see what you could use from a building materials shop? I got my plastic hoop from an old fabric roman shade.

What about that clear flexible hose you can buy by the foot at Lowe's and use connector to form circle. It's cheap and comes in different diameters. Love this idea. Think that's what I am going to try and use.

I think the tubing idea is great! I was going to BUY a bed for my cat, but I'd much rather make one!
Now, to get to the store!

There are so many ways that we can go with this idea. I have old wooden embroidery hoops and those plastic strips for securing things that you get at the hardware store that you can make hoops of any size. LOVE THIS IDEA. Thanks

I just found this idea. Am going to try myself. I would think the size and diameter of the hoop material would make a difference. Maria, your hoop may be too big around or too heavy. I think it is intended to fall over somewhat. you may have to experiment and even try using a different weight yarn or even double yarn. Good luck. Hope mine works.

What a great idea.I have made puss several beds and blankets but he always wants what he's not allowed in or on. I'll try this one and see if it does the trick. He loved his plastic tunnels he had to play in as a kitten and we gave them away when he was 3. He's only approx 5 now. I have a huge stash of leftover yarn too which will do the trick. Thanks

I have to make one of these for my daughter's kitty, who loves to burrow and even sleep under the covers. Thanks so much for the tutorial!

Cute idea, I think our cat and kitten would love this. Question? What size yarn did you use and did you double it? Do you think the Bernat blanket yarn would work? Thank you.

I am in the process of making one for our CTS. I found some steel rings of different sizes at Hobby Lobby. I'm using 3 strands of #4 yarn around a 13.5" ring. So far it looks good. Will try to post pic when finished. I may try using Bernat blanket yarn next, I have a good bit of that.. Thank you for the idea.

Per Google translate:
How many grams of wool do you need at least?
I don't know the answer as I haven't made mine yet: can someone help Petra with how much yarn you used? I wouldn't think it's very much yarn.

What about using a pool noodle and tape it together to form the opening size you need and then cover and make the sleeping sack.

I just rescued a kitten who has adopted us, she is an indoor/outdoor kitteh and likes to sleep outside in our tree. So we are going to build her a platform and climbing steps in the tree and I wanted to make her a warm bed in the house my husband is buldhing her, this looks so comfy and warm. Thank you for your patterns.
