This is the story of our last family DIY project: a cat-house for our male Maine-Coon, who discovered that his hormones are functioning well and so he started to mark his territory in house. Bad idea :P that territory is already owned by me. So, to make everyone happy we decided to make his own outside (in our case that means on the balcony) space with his own house in it. We used cheap materials, I admit, we only need the house to survive a year or two and most of the effort went on making the boards water-proofed. By now the house is functional, although not yet finished. I still need to crochet him some nice warm baskets, caves, other stuff to crawl in :)
During my holiday to Romania I found a lot of treasures. Among them also lots and lots and lots of doilies and other crocheted items. Today I had the time and the energy to put them to good use. I made a new winter curtain :) With doilies!!! Not the most original idea (there are some other examples on pinterest), but still, I love the one I made. Because the fabric is from my grandmother as well as the doilies and the crocheted edges. So please, enjoy the pictures I made while working on this DIY project. I hope you like the result :) What a difference one day makes! Last week I was missing motivation, I started a project three times, frogged it twice, and all this because I was waiting and my patience was put to the test :P But yesterday everything changed! I got two presents in one day ^^ Well first I received my prize from the Mollie Makes competition. 10 books! I am so happy, love them! I predict wonderful evenings to come :P Second, I received a new HUGE stash of wool from Romania. I found this online shop that was selling pure wool and the prices were incredible low (well, incredible low in comparison with the prices in The Netherlands). Even when including the price of the postal services and it was still a bargain. So I ordered 6.8 kg of pure Romanian wool in two weights and lovely colors: dark red, dark grey, yellow, mustard yellow, orange, black and two shades of white. And now that it is here I like it so much! Especially the bulky version, I have big plans for it :) Some months ago I entered a competition organised by the Dutch edition of Mollie Makes. The topic was "birds" and my idea was to make a birdhouse from twine embellished with some needlework.
And guess what? :) My little bird house was chosen the winner of the competition! That means that my design will be featured in the next edition of "Mollie Makes Haken", I could choose 10 books published by the editing house "Tirion Creatief" and in addition, the pattern will be also published online on Freubelweb, which is a nice platform featuring free DIY projects for the Dutch community. So, I am very happy that I took the time to make the bird house. I cant wait to see my pattern published and to receive the 10 books on crafts I chose :) |
