Long long time ago I started working on a knitted vest. It was 95% done when, for some reasons, I stopped working on it. 15 years have passed. And then I found the project during this holiday and thought "Hey, what a cute little vest! Too bad it is not finished" :P So I gathered my strength and did it! I FINISHED THE VEST! Of course my husband hates it... he cant stand the color red :P

A fun little project: make key rings from left over felt :) I made the ones you see in the picture not for me but for a fundraising event organised by Friends of Cats Association. The key rings can be either sold or offered as a gift for those who donate. For those of you out there that are trying to make a difference and help the stray animals, here are some photos and instructions on how you can do this key ring for yourself. End of the year, the magical period when work seems to just pile up and free time gets less and less and less.. :/ That is my story and the reason for the silence on the blog lately. But I did work on some projects and now I find the time to post about one easy, cozy and fun project, perfect for this time of the year: crocheted slippers. With felt soles, to be more precise :P The ones you see in the video tutorial are made for my husband who chose the color combination. He wanted a fun pair of slippers :) Well, he has them now! Like the title of the post sais - I made my first hat with a pattern created by me. Because I have a weird shaped head and I wanted something custom made for it :P So I had to create my hat from scratch. The experience I had with making crocheted dolls helped. And I also learned a new stitch: the front post double crochet, which sounds more complicated than it is. All in all: a good project with a nice warm hat as a result. Just in time for the winter :) Did you ever crochet in back loop or front loop? I did not until now but then I tried and I discovered that the textured effect that you can get is quite nice. I experimented with half double crochet (hdc) in back loop only and it looks a bit like knit which I thought that was pretty cool. Here are two items I crocheted using the hdc in back loop stitch: two cowls, a smaller and a larger version. Just to give you an idea, for the small cowl I chained 31 cm of chains and for the larger cowl I chained 55 cm. Then I worked the pattern - for the small cowl I worked till I had around 46 cm and for the large cowl 88 cm. Easy to do in front of the TV, just for some relaxation in between more complicated projects. Following up on our cat house on the balcony I was busy these days with making cozy stuff for the inside. One easy project was to transform an old plastic litter box into a sleeping basket. I used left over yarn combined into a bulky thread which I crocheted to make a cover. Turned out very nice I think and based on how the cats were busy testing it, I think they liked it a lot :) If you feel inspired by this simple recycle-DIY-project, I took some photos to illustrate the process :) This is the story of our last family DIY project: a cat-house for our male Maine-Coon, who discovered that his hormones are functioning well and so he started to mark his territory in house. Bad idea :P that territory is already owned by me. So, to make everyone happy we decided to make his own outside (in our case that means on the balcony) space with his own house in it. We used cheap materials, I admit, we only need the house to survive a year or two and most of the effort went on making the boards water-proofed. By now the house is functional, although not yet finished. I still need to crochet him some nice warm baskets, caves, other stuff to crawl in :) During my holiday to Romania I found a lot of treasures. Among them also lots and lots and lots of doilies and other crocheted items. Today I had the time and the energy to put them to good use. I made a new winter curtain :) With doilies!!! Not the most original idea (there are some other examples on pinterest), but still, I love the one I made. Because the fabric is from my grandmother as well as the doilies and the crocheted edges. So please, enjoy the pictures I made while working on this DIY project. I hope you like the result :) What a difference one day makes! Last week I was missing motivation, I started a project three times, frogged it twice, and all this because I was waiting and my patience was put to the test :P But yesterday everything changed! I got two presents in one day ^^ Well first I received my prize from the Mollie Makes competition. 10 books! I am so happy, love them! I predict wonderful evenings to come :P Second, I received a new HUGE stash of wool from Romania. I found this online shop that was selling pure wool and the prices were incredible low (well, incredible low in comparison with the prices in The Netherlands). Even when including the price of the postal services and it was still a bargain. So I ordered 6.8 kg of pure Romanian wool in two weights and lovely colors: dark red, dark grey, yellow, mustard yellow, orange, black and two shades of white. And now that it is here I like it so much! Especially the bulky version, I have big plans for it :) Some months ago I entered a competition organised by the Dutch edition of Mollie Makes. The topic was "birds" and my idea was to make a birdhouse from twine embellished with some needlework.
And guess what? :) My little bird house was chosen the winner of the competition! That means that my design will be featured in the next edition of "Mollie Makes Haken", I could choose 10 books published by the editing house "Tirion Creatief" and in addition, the pattern will be also published online on Freubelweb, which is a nice platform featuring free DIY projects for the Dutch community. So, I am very happy that I took the time to make the bird house. I cant wait to see my pattern published and to receive the 10 books on crafts I chose :) |
